Ten years, written down

I began keeping notes in 2016, on paper, in my phone, in messages to myself. This is the decade that made me, compiled and rewritten so that it can be read from the beginning. It is not always easy reading. It is always mine.

Each year has its own page. Entries are short, because most were written in bad light on a cracked phone. Where a name would put someone at risk, it has been changed. Where I was wrong about something at the time, I have left it, and said so later.

The books tell the long version of the worst parts. The journal is what happened between the chapters: the ordinary days, the small mercies, the people who helped.

This journal was compiled from ten years of notes, messages and memories and rewritten for this site.

God Bless Gay People is the memoir that came out of these notes. It is a hundred and thirty pages and it is the truest thing I have written.
